Schools and math in Hillsborough
Where Hillsborough students go to school
The Hillsborough City School District is a K-8 district of four schools: North Hillsborough, South Hillsborough and West Hillsborough for the elementary years, and William H. Crocker Middle School on Ralston Avenue for sixth, seventh and eighth grade. There is no public high school in town. The San Mateo Union High School District assigns a campus by home address; its School Locator gives the answer for your street. Aragon High School, on the Hillsborough border in San Mateo, lists Crocker among its feeder schools.
Two independent schools are in town. Crystal Springs Uplands School is a coeducational college-prep school for grades 6 through 12, with its upper school on Uplands Drive and its middle school in Belmont. The Nueva School, which serves gifted students, keeps its lower and middle schools (pre-K through eighth grade) in Hillsborough and its upper school in San Mateo. Close by for high school are Mercy High School, an all-girls Catholic school in Burlingame, and Junipero Serra, an all-boys Catholic school in San Mateo.

Math at Crocker
Crocker publishes its math pathways. Every sixth grader takes Common Core 6. Seventh grade splits into Common Core 7 or Compressed Common Core 7/8, and eighth grade into Common Core 8 or Algebra 1.
The compressed path is earned on evidence. Every sixth grader is assessed at the end of the year, and a recommendation needs all three: at least 36 of 40 on the MDTP Grade 7 readiness test, an average of 90% or more on four open-ended MARS tasks, and 90% or better in each trimester of Common Core 6. A Common Core 7 student can still reach Algebra 1 through a summer bridge, with a similar bar. Students in the compressed path or Algebra 1 who fall below 80% at a trimester may move to the grade-level path.

Math after Crocker
The next decision comes in the spring of eighth grade. Aragon gives a Math Acceleration Exam in March for incoming ninth graders who want its compressed sequence: Geometry, Algebra 2 and Pre-Calculus in two years instead of three. District courses run through Precalculus, and Aragon offers AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC and AP Statistics to tenth through twelfth graders.

Executive function coaching in Hillsborough
High school brings more teachers, more portals and longer deadlines at once. For students with ADHD, autism, dyslexia or a twice-exceptional profile, what slips is usually starting, planning and finishing rather than understanding. Coaching happens at your student's desk on this week's actual assignments and can run alongside tutoring. Yes. Hillsborough is in our in-home service area, so the educator comes to you. Sessions happen at your dining table or your student's own desk, or online on the weeks that work better.
Can you help my student toward Crocker's compressed math path?
We can build the skills Crocker's readiness test and open-ended MARS tasks measure, working from your student's current Common Core course. Placement is the school's decision on its published criteria, so we focus on readiness and never promise a placement.

Yes. Sessions follow your student's own courses, materials and calendar, whichever school they attend, public or independent.
