FAQ

Questions families ask

Plain answers. If yours is not here, text us and we will answer it the same day.

What is the free assessment?

A conversation about your student, their school and what is getting in the way, by text, phone or a booked call, usually 30 minutes. No pitch. A match proposal follows, usually within a week: the educator, the plan and a weekly time. If a match will take longer, we tell you on the call.

Who comes to the house?

One educator, matched to your student by subject, level and personality after the free assessment. You meet them before the first session, and the same person comes every week. Your educator works for Plato+, not a marketplace.

What if the match is wrong?

Tell us. One re-match is free: we introduce a different educator, your plan and your Membership carry over, and nothing is billed for the switch. The fit matters more than anything else we do.

What does it cost?

Flex is $300 a session in your home or $240 online, pay as you go. A Membership is $275 or $215 a session, with your weekly time held. Commit through the end of the term and it is $260 or $200. Sessions are 60 minutes. Four-week totals and the full terms are on the pricing page.

Is there a discount for committing?

Yes. Commit through the end of the term and save $15 a session on the Membership rate. Join any time; terms end Jan 31, Jun 15 and Aug 31. Join with under 8 weeks left and the commitment runs through the next term. When the term ends, you continue on a Membership, on the same 4-week cycle, unless you recommit, and we remind you three weeks before.

How do I pause or stop?

Cancel a Membership any time; it runs through the end of the period you've already paid for. Cancel the same way you signed up, by text or email, and we confirm in writing. To keep your time through a break, a hold costs 50% of your 4-week price; there is no free pause. Reschedule a session with 24 hours' notice; inside 24 hours it is billed, with one make-up every 4 weeks on a Membership. A semester runs to the end of the term, then continues on a Membership, on the same 4-week cycle, unless you recommit or tell us to stop. Leave early any time; past sessions are rebilled at the Membership rate. Flex has nothing to cancel, and a Flex session cancelled under 24 hours is billed in full.

How does billing work?

Memberships and semesters are billed every 4 weeks from your start date, in advance, for the next 4 sessions (8 if twice a week), by card or bank transfer, at the same price either way. Flex is billed weekly after sessions. Each session is itemized on your receipt, and you have 7 days to flag anything.

How is Plato+ different from a tutoring center or a marketplace tutor?

Three things. We come to you: sessions are in your home or online, not at a center across town. Your educator works for Plato+, not a marketplace, and is matched and supervised by our founder. And there is one plan and one point of contact: the same educator every week, a written plan when executive function is involved, and someone at Plato+ who knows your student when you text.

Could Plato+ be free for us?

For some families, yes. Make-up services a district owes under an IEP, a Regional Center Self-Determination budget, homeschool charter funds or an employer stipend can pay for some or all of it. Here's what works.

Where do you go?

In-home sessions across the Peninsula: Redwood City, Emerald Hills, San Carlos, Belmont, San Mateo, Foster City, Burlingame, Hillsborough, Menlo Park, Atherton, Woodside, Portola Valley, Palo Alto, Los Altos, Mountain View and Half Moon Bay. Online sessions are available anywhere.
